The Caribbean Industrial Research Institute (CARIRI), Republic Bank Limited under the Power to Make a Difference Programme, bmobile, and Atlantic have teamed up to offer training to 3,000 students over the July/August vacation period. The programme is called Innovation Nation Training Programme and is a rebrand of the Coding and Innovation Programme.
This year, there are three tracks for students to choose from and these include: Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) and Coding, Innovation and Entrepreneurship and the newest addition is Climate Action. Taking a multi-disciplinary micro-learning approach, CARIRI will explore the Computer Science, Engineering, Innovation, Business Development, and Climate Action/Sustainable Energy fields educating participants on the emerging concepts from an industry standpoint to showcase and highlight the career paths which can be pursued.
This programme is virtual and self paced, meaning students can choose when to complete it and is open to students between the ages of 10 to 18 years old across Trinidad and Tobago.
Depending on the chosen track, Innovation Nation Training Programme will assist students to be able to understand coding, engineering, business development, ideation and innovation as well as climate action and sustainable energy.
The STEAM track will consist of Coding and Astrophysics, Coding and Digital Music as well as Data Science, Dashboards and Mobile Apps.
The Innovation and Entrepreneurship track will help students to come up with better and more innovative ideas as well as teach them the basics of turning their ideas into a business by presenting an age-appropriate business canvas model.
New this year is the Climate Action module which will deliver high quality awareness training in the area of sustainability, energy audits, carbon foot printing and solar PV systems that will empower students to adopt informed energy conscious mindsets and to engage in energy conservation practices.
The programme will run in July and students who complete the track within the month will be eligible to participate in the PowerUp! Competition in August which will ask students to incorporate what they have learned to create solutions to societal issues.
This programme is based around the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 13 (Climate Action).
Registration opens on 29th May, 2023 and will be on a first come, first serve basis.
