The Caribbean Industrial Research Institute (CARIRI) has launched its Innovation Nation training programme 2025, an exciting, self-paced innovation and entrepreneurship programme designed to engage and inspire the youth of Trinidad and Tobago between the ages of 10 to 18.
This dynamic and forward-thinking virtual learning experience can accommodate 3,500 students and is scheduled to run during the July-August vacation period, which ensures youths can participate without interfering with the regular school year, while making productive use of their holiday.
Now in its latest iteration, Innovation Nation 2025 offers young minds a unique opportunity to explore their creativity, sharpen their problem-solving skills, and develop solutions for real-world challenges – all from the comfort of their homes and at their own pace. Participants will be exposed to a wide range of subject areas including Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM), Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and Climate Action, while also exploring the many career pathways linked to these fields. With students well-versed in online learning, the programme taps into their digital fluency to deliver a meaningful and accessible experience from anywhere in Trinidad and Tobago.
Specifically, students will be exposed to STEAM and Coding, which includes topics like Coding with Astrophysics, Digital Music, Mobile Apps, and Artificial Intelligence; Innovation and Entrepreneurship, covering Ideation, Business Models, Ethics, Life Skills, and Green Business; and Climate Action in Motion, where students explore Climate Change, Energy Auditing, Solar PV, and Carbon Footprinting.
This free programme culminates with the PowerUp Competition scheduled for October 2025, where students from schools across the country will present innovative solutions to real-world problems. This competition fosters collaboration, critical thinking, and public speaking, and provides students with national exposure, exciting prizes, and access to expert mentorship. It’s a unique opportunity for youths to put their knowledge into action and shine on a national stage.
This project was made possible through the generosity of Republic Bank Limited, as part of its Power to Make a Difference Programme, bmobile, Guardian Media Limited, Freedom 106.5FM and Methanex. Their partnership expands outreach to more students each year and helps cultivate a culture of innovation among our nation’s future leaders.
