Port of Spain, Trinidad – The Caribbean Industrial Research Institute (CARIRI) is thrilled to announce its prestigious win at the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce’s annual Champions of Business Awards. On November 7th 2024, CARIRI was recognized with the Innovation Award, sponsored by bmobile Business, for its groundbreaking Rubber Crumb Project, which exemplifies its commitment to sustainable innovation and the advancement of Trinidad and Tobago’s economy through innovative environmental solutions.
The Rubber Crumb Project, a pioneering initiative by CARIRI, addresses the environmental challenges posed by discarded tires by transforming waste rubber into crumb rubber, a valuable raw material that can be used in various industries. The project not only reduces the nation’s landfill waste but also promotes the development of eco-friendly products, including construction materials, sports surfaces, and landscaping applications.

The Rubber Crumb Project is a Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP) funded project is a collaboration among the Ministry of Planning and Development, CARIRI, the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) and the University of the West Indies (UWI).
