Officials from the Caribbean Industrial Research Institute (CARIRI) recently visited Studley Park Enterprises Limited (SPEL) in Tobago to strengthen relationships, explore areas of mutual interest and identify opportunities for future collaboration that can contribute to sustainable development and innovation in Trinidad and specifically, in Tobago.
During the visit, CARIRI representatives including the Chief Executive Officer, Hans-Erich Schulz, engaged in productive discussions with Tobago House of Assembly Chief Secretary, the Honourable Farley Augustine, and General Manager of Studley Park Enterprises Limited, Dr. Christian Virgil. The discussions focused on potential areas of partnership, leveraging the expertise of both organizations to develop innovative solutions that support environmental sustainability, economic growth and national development.
A key highlight of the visit was the presentation of a sample of CARIRI’s rubber crumb product to SPEL. The rubber crumb, produced from end-of-life tyres through CARIRI’s innovative waste-to-value initiative, offers a sustainable alternative for a range of applications including road construction, landscaping, recreational surfaces and other value-added products.
The sample was presented to SPEL to facilitate experimentation and evaluation of potential uses within Tobago. By exploring practical applications for rubber crumb, both organizations can contribute to reducing environmental waste while creating new opportunities for sustainable infrastructure and product development.
The visit underscored the strong alignment between CARIRI’s mission of advancing innovation through research and technology and SPEL’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental stewardship in Tobago. Both organizations expressed enthusiasm about the potential for future collaborations that can deliver tangible benefits to communities, industries and the wider national economy.
CARIRI remains committed to fostering strategic partnerships across Trinidad and Tobago that drive innovation, support environmental sustainability, and create impactful solutions to national challenges.
