East Port of Spain, December 14, 2023 — The Caribbean Industrial Research Institute (CARIRI) and the East Port of Spain Development Company Ltd (EPOS) proudly announce a groundbreaking collaboration that will bring forth a transformative Skills Development Programme set to impact the lives of over 350 residents of East Port of Spain in 2024. This initiative not only seeks to impart essential knowledge but also aims to enhance the overall well-being and prosperity of the community.
The official launch took place on the 14th of December, 2023, at the Highlanders Steel Orchestra Pan Theatre and Learning Centre, EMR Laventille. Both CARIRI and EPOS seized the opportunity to introduce this innovative collaboration and unveil the comprehensive programmes that will be offered to the residents of East Port of Spain.
The Honourable Adrian Leonce, Minister in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and Member of Parliament for Laventille East/Morvant, attended the launch and delivered the feature address. He emphasized the significance of this collaboration, stating, “This alliance signifies a momentous step towards cultivating innovation, fostering skills, and propelling the youth of East Port of Spain into a future of possibilities.”
Mr. Hans-Erich Schulz, Chief Executive Officer of CARIRI, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, highlighting CARIRI’s commitment to building national capacity. He stated, “Together, CARIRI and the East Port of Spain Development Company Limited can be architects of positive change, shaping a future where our citizens are not only well-informed but also independent contributors to society. This will be a pivotal moment of both transformative and sustainable development.”
The programmes slated for 2024 include Essentials for Starting a Food Business, Technology for Business, Off-Grid Solar PV Systems, and CARIRI’s signature Business Hatchery Programme.
