| | Food safety affects the health and wealth of a nation. Though governments may be actively responding to food safety concerns through a number of initiatives, it is imperative that the stakeholders in the food industry play their role in ensuring that the foods offered to the population are safe to eat. It is against this background that CARIRI, given its commitment to enhancing food safety practices in Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean community, has established a regional food safety center. Mission To develop a region sensitized to food safety through the creation of a regional food safety centre that will make CARIRI the region's premier food safety authority. To improve the implementation of good food safety practices and enhance the region's populations' knowledge of food safety thereby improving their quality of life. Objectives - To educate a representative number of farmers, food manufacturers, food service providers, food distributors, food regulatory bodies, consumers and school children on good food safety practices.
- To assist in developing good food safety management and practices among food manufactures, food distributors and food service providers.
- To improve the implementation of good food safety management and practices among food manufacturers, food distributors and food service providers.
- Seek to influence a change in the legislation and infrastructure supporting food safety in the region.
- To catalyse the formation of a small Agro-processors Association.
