CARIRI offers the energy industry the most sophisticated, independent testing services in the Caribbean for petroleum, petroleum products, natural gas and environmental effluents. Our expertise is home-grown and world class, having developed in a country that is the number one exporter of ammonia and methanol in the world, the fifth largest exporter of liquefied natural gas, and home to one of the oldest oil industries in the world. The first oil well in Trinidad was drilled in 1857 and the oil refinery was established in 1917. Three major services of national importance entrusted to the Petroleum and Energy-Based Unit are: - royalty evaluations of crude oils
- supplying the Government and the suppliers of natural gas with analyses that determine the value of this resource and the taxes that must be paid, and
- testing the chemicals used by the energy companies in the oilfields, as these have to be approved for use by the Ministry of Energy.
